PointLens Privacy Policy

PointLens helps you understand the real world through your camera: signs, menus, museum labels, product instructions, and local context. This policy explains what data is used, why it is used, which service providers help us, and how you can contact us or request deletion.

Overview

We use data only to provide camera understanding, account continuity, purchases, support, and security.

PointLens is operated by PointLens Team. The app does not sell personal information and does not use your camera content or location to track you across apps or websites. Some features require sending information to our backend and trusted service providers so that the app can generate requested results, manage scan credits, process purchases, and respond to support requests.

PointLens is an informational assistant. It is not a medical, legal, financial, safety, or emergency service. For important decisions, follow official signs, product labels, local rules, and qualified professionals.

Data We Collect

Data categories and purpose

The exact data used depends on the features you choose to use and the permissions you grant on your device.

Camera and image data When you start an AI scan, PointLens may process a camera frame or compressed JPEG image to understand the object, sign, menu, label, or scene in view. Images are used to return the requested analysis and are not used to identify you personally.
OCR and scan context PointLens may process recognized text, OCR confidence, app language, detected language, focus area, time zone, scan action, app version, and generated context identifiers. This helps produce relevant explanations and practical action suggestions.
Optional location data If you grant location permission, PointLens may send approximate GPS coordinates, accuracy, timestamp, permission state, and source with a scan. Location helps interpret local signs, city spaces, places, and rules. You can use PointLens without location permission.
Account data PointLens creates an anonymous user ID through an authentication and database service so scan credits and usage can work without requiring a traditional account. If you choose platform account sign-in to protect your remaining scans, the sign-in flow may provide an identity token and, depending on your settings, an email address.
Purchase and credit data For in-app purchases, PointLens uses App Store purchase information, purchase infrastructure user identifiers, product IDs, transaction IDs, credit balances, free scan usage, and purchase ledger records to grant and restore AI scans.
Support data If you contact us, we may receive your email address, message, user ID, app version, credit status, screenshots you choose to send, and any details you include in the support request.
Diagnostics and security data Our backend may log request IDs, trace IDs, endpoint names, processing time, provider status, error messages, image byte counts, permission states, and limited request metadata to prevent abuse, debug failures, and keep the service reliable.
On-device history If you save analysis results in the app, PointLens stores saved history on your device. Saved history can include recognized text, translations, explanations, action suggestions, and related scan context.

  • To adapt responses to your app language, native language, detected language, and local context when available.
  • To manage free AI scans, purchased scans, credit balances, and purchase restoration.
  • To maintain anonymous sessions and allow optional account protection through platform account sign-in.
  • To provide customer support and investigate purchase, credit, account, or technical issues.
  • To detect errors, prevent abuse, enforce usage limits, and secure our backend services.
  • To comply with applicable law, App Store requirements, and valid legal requests.

App Store payment processing and purchase infrastructure help us retrieve product offerings and connect purchases to your PointLens user ID.

Hosting

Cloud hosting provider

Our API is hosted on cloud infrastructure that may process request logs and technical metadata needed to serve the app.

Choices

Your controls

  • Camera: You can disable camera permission in iOS Settings. PointLens needs camera access for camera-based scans.
  • Location: Location is optional. You can deny or disable location permission at any time in iOS Settings, and scans can continue without location.
  • Platform account sign-in: You can use PointLens anonymously. Account sign-in is optional and is used to help protect remaining scans if you delete the app, clear data, or switch devices.
  • On-device history: You can delete saved history inside the app. Deleting the app may also remove local app data from your device.
  • Support email: You choose what information to include when contacting us. Including your PointLens user ID helps us locate account and credit records.

Retention

How long data is kept

We keep account, credit, and purchase records for as long as needed to provide the app, maintain purchased scan balances, prevent duplicate purchase grants, comply with App Store and tax/accounting obligations, and resolve disputes. Diagnostic logs are kept only as long as reasonably needed for reliability, security, and debugging.

You may request deletion of your PointLens account records by emailing 22373995@qq.com. Please include your PointLens user ID from the Support screen if possible. We may need to keep limited records where required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, accounting, or App Store purchase obligations.

Purchases and Refunds

Purchase records help us support App Store transactions

App Store payment processing handles payments and refund requests for app purchases. PointLens keeps purchase ledger records, product IDs, transaction IDs, and credit grants so we can avoid duplicate grants, troubleshoot missing AI scans, and respond to support requests. To request a refund, use the official refund flow for App Store purchases.

Disclosure

When data may be shared

We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information to service providers listed in this policy, to comply with law, to protect PointLens or users from fraud or abuse, to respond to valid legal processes, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.

Security

Security measures

We use authentication tokens, HTTPS for production API traffic, access controls, limited logging, and provider-side security controls to protect information. No internet service can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information in camera scans or support requests.

Children

Children's privacy

PointLens is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

International

International processing

PointLens and its service providers may process information in countries other than where you live. Data protection laws may differ by jurisdiction, but we use providers and operational safeguards intended to protect information consistently with this policy.

Updates

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as PointLens changes. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and, where appropriate, provide notice in the app or on this page.
